Runs but does not heat
The light and plate work but food stays cold. This usually means a fault in the heating parts, such as the magnetron, the high voltage diode or the capacitor, or a door switch.
Sparking inside
Metal, foil, steel spoons or plates with a gold rim cause sparks. If it sparks with none of these inside, the thin cover sheet on the inside wall may be burnt or dirty.
Plate not turning
Check that the glass plate and the roller ring underneath are seated correctly. If they are, the small turntable motor may have failed.
Buttons or display not working
The child lock may be on. Otherwise the keypad, a fuse or the control board may have failed.
Will not start
Door switches stop the oven running unless the door is fully shut. A bent latch or a failed switch stops it from starting.
Check these before you call
These take a few minutes and sometimes solve the problem.
- Make sure the door shuts fully and nothing is caught in it.
- Check that the glass plate and roller ring are seated correctly.
- Remove any metal, foil or gold-rimmed dishes.
- Heat a cup of water for one minute to test whether it is heating.
Safety: Stop using the oven if it sparks with no metal inside, and never run it empty. Parts inside hold a dangerous electric charge even when unplugged, so do not open the cover.

Why does my microwave run but not heat food?
When the light and plate work but food stays cold, the heating circuit has a fault. The usual parts are the magnetron, the high voltage diode, the capacitor or a door switch. These need a technician because of the high voltage inside.
Why is my microwave sparking?
Metal of any kind, including foil and gold or silver rims on plates, causes sparks. If there is no metal inside, the cover sheet on the inside wall may be burnt or covered in food splatter. Stop using it until it is checked.
Do you repair convection microwaves?

How much will the repair cost?
It depends on the fault and on any parts that need replacing. Ask for the charges when you call, before you book, and ask for the cost of the repair before any work starts.
