AC not cooling enough
Dirty filters are the most common cause. A dusty outdoor unit, a failed capacitor, or low gas from a leak also reduce cooling.
Water dripping from the indoor unit
The drain pipe is often blocked, or the indoor unit is tilted the wrong way. Very dirty filters can also make ice form on the coil, which drips as it melts.
Outdoor unit not running
The indoor fan runs but the outdoor unit stays silent. A failed capacitor or contactor is common, along with power or stabiliser problems.
Bad smell
Dust and moisture in the filters and the indoor coil grow mould. The unit needs a proper cleaning, not just a filter wash.
Ice on the pipes
Ice on the copper pipes or the indoor coil usually means low gas or blocked airflow. Switch to fan mode and call.
Remote or display not working
Start with fresh batteries. If the unit shows an error code on its display, note it down before you call.
Check these before you call
These take a few minutes and sometimes solve the problem.
- Set the mode to Cool and the temperature a few degrees below the room temperature.
- Replace the remote batteries.
- Slide out the indoor filters and wash them in plain water if they are dusty. Let them dry before putting them back.
- Check the MCB and the stabiliser, and keep doors and windows closed while the AC runs.
Safety: Do not get the gas topped up without a leak check. If gas is low, it has leaked out somewhere, and filling it without fixing the leak only lasts a short time.

Why is my AC running but not cooling?
Start by cleaning the indoor filters and checking the mode is set to Cool. If it still does not cool, the outdoor unit may not be running, which is often a capacitor fault, or the gas may be low because of a leak.
Why is water dripping from my split AC indoors?
The water the AC removes from the air should drain outside through a pipe. If that pipe is blocked or the unit is tilted, water collects and drips indoors. Clearing the drain usually fixes it.
How often should an AC be serviced?
Wash the filters every few weeks when you use the AC daily. A full service that cleans the coils and checks the drain once or twice a year keeps cooling strong and power bills lower.
How much will the repair cost?
It depends on the fault and on any parts that need replacing. Ask for the charges when you call, before you book, and ask for the cost of the repair before any work starts.
